Archbishop Dominic Jala was the archbishop of the Roman Catholic archdiocese of Shillong and the Apostolic Administrator of the Roman Catholic diocese of Nongstoin. He had also been the provincial of the Salesian province of Guwahati and professor at Sacred Heart Theological College. Unfortunately, he died in a road accident in the US on 10th October 2019. Here at our college, in his own home and family and in the archdiocese of Shillong the much loved and respected archbishop was greatly remembered and missed. To mark his first death anniversary Holy Eucharist was offered and memorial services held to remember and pray for the archbishop.
When among us he had been very committed to being closely involved with the study programmes and other activities of Sacred Heart Theological College and made himself happily available for teaching and other services at the college. Sacred Heart Theological College paid special homage to him by publishing a memorial volume titled An Affable Pastor (edited by Abraham M Antony and Jose Varickassseril) to honour his memory and to highlight his outstanding qualities and areas of significant ministry. God grant him the reward of eternal life.
