About Library

The Otto Hopfenmueller Library is dedicated to the memory of Fr. Otto Hopfenmueller, the leader and superior of the first group of Salvatorians who came to Northeast India in 1890. At present, it houses over 1,30,000 volumes dealing mostly with Scripture, Theology, Spirituality, Church History, Missiology, World Religions, Ethics (with special emphasis on Christian Moral Theology), History, Literature, Indian Cultures (with particular emphasis on Northeast India). It has over 13,600 bound volumes of journals/reviews and magazines. The current subscription for journals and magazines is 101. The library also houses some rare books (in Latin) of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the first printed Khasi Dictionary, facsimile copies of the Guttenberg Bible, Codex Vaticanus, etc.
